diversity

Diversity affects our lives everyday. Everywhere we go, no matter what city, state, or country you travel to, you will always be surrounded by diversity. This can be both a good and a bad thing. However, diversity is a part of our daily lives and it is something that we must learn to live with. In Jonathan Alger’s “The Education Value of Diversity,” he explains the importance of diversity and how it is often misinterpreted. For example, he states that in a place of higher education, students learn that not all people of a particular race act or think alike. “By seeing firsthand that all black or Hispanic students do not think or act alike, white students can overcome learned prejudices that may have arisen in part from a lack of direct exposure to individuals of other races (Alger p. 2).” This is only one pro of racial diversity. Alger also goes on to say that prejudices can be overcome when students discover just how much they have in common with their peers from other races.
